Robert and I celebrated our first Thanksgiving together in our home with both of our mamas and Robert's Aunt Lynn and Uncle Darrell.

(The motor in my hand mixer burned up from doing this. Lame.)

Robert fried a turkey for the first time.  We bought a turkey fryer the day before Thanksgiving, along with the peanut oil and the injector.  I found a really good recipe online for "savory herb" turkey injections.

The idea was to simmer a combination of herbs and spices on the stove and then inject it all into the turkey.

Sounds fabulous, right?

Yeah, well, it wasn't that easy. The glorious herbs and spices jammed up the injector.

I don't have a small strainer, so we had to improvise.  We tried a coffee filter to strain the mixture.  That failed.  After a couple more fails I was able to locate some netting in my craft box and that worked!

We successfully injected the turkey and rubbed the strained spices on the outside.

Robert fried it perfectly and it was soooo freakin' moist and delicious.  Mmmmm....turkey....we'll probably never bake another turkey again.  It's just not the same!

Everyone pitched in and made a dish or two and we ended up with a ridiculous amount of food.  It was all sooo tasty!

We really enjoyed having our family with us for the holiday and it was fun to have our first major holiday together in our home and not on the road.  We hope that everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving!
